                                        Arsenic & Old Lace

                                        By Joseph Kesselring
                                        Directed by Jo-Ann McCabe
Produced by arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc.

What does a fellow do when he finds out, on the eve of his wedding that insanity runs in his family? In fact, it doesn't run it gallops! That's the question facing Mortimer Brewster, a struggling drama critic, when he finds out that his darling old aunts, Abby and Martha Brewster have developed a rather nasty habit.

Poor Mortimer's family is beset with lunacy. Both his brothers have "identity" problems. Teddy's are psychological: he thinks he's the President, Teddy Roosevelt. Jonathan's are practical. He needs a new identity each time the cops put out a WANTED poster with his mug on it.

Then we have the cops: as bungling and delightfully incompetent a group of hapless misfits as any criminal could hope to meet.

In all there are fourteen characters in this brilliant and nutty play. Arsenic and Old Lace is one of the best plays in the American repertory: fabulous entertainment for the whole family.
