Enchanted April
Enchanted April tells the story of four women who leave their dreary lives in post-war London to vacation in a villa in Italy. Two housewives, both lonely, both suffering in joyless marriages, meet after seeing the same newspaper ad for a villa for rent on the Italian Riviera. The prospect of a holiday in sunshine and wisteria gives them the courage to escape the gloom and repression of their lives. They rent the villa and set off to find two other women to share expenses. A diverse foursome is formed when an elderly dowager and a beautiful young socialite respond to their newspaper ad.
Italy, the coastal town, the weather and wisteria, the villa and its people work magic on the four English ladies. They find beauty and rejuvenation, old love and new love in their enchanted surroundings and in each other. Performed by Phoenix Players on November 30-December 1, 2006. |
